Midwives are far more than just medical professionals. They are companions, trusted confidants, and often the first source of support for families during one of the most emotionally charged moments of their lives. This is precisely what the International Day of the Midwife, celebrated worldwide since 1991, aims to highlight. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of this profession while also bringing greater attention to the challenges faced in obstetrics.
“Midwives ensure optimal care for women and families during pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and breastfeeding. They provide security and trust in situations marked by great tension and, at the same time, joyful anticipation. With expertise, experience, empathy, and closeness, they accompany the start of life,” emphasizes Bettina Zorn, head midwife at GPR Klinikum. “Their dedication and expertise are invaluable to families. Through our participation in International Midwives’ Day, we want to highlight exactly that and express our deep appreciation,” adds Prof. Dr. Eric Steiner, Chief Physician of the Gynecology Clinic at GPR Klinikum.

The GPR Clinic offers safe care for premature infants weighing 1,500 grams or more at birth or those born after the 32nd week of pregnancy.
