Outpatient specialist care (ASV) for chronic inflammatory bowel diseases
Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), which include Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, occur with remarkable frequency in Germany. According to current epidemiological data, the prevalence of IBD in Germany is approximately 0.3–0.5% of the population. This means that between 250,000 and 400,000 people in Germany suffer from one of these diseases.
The GPR Clinic is authorized to provide outpatient specialist care (ASV). This allows IBD patients to continue receiving treatment from the specialists at the GPR Clinic after discharge from the hospital. These conditions often require intensive and specialized care to improve patient satisfaction and quality of life and to prevent complications.
The ASV team is led by Dr. Berthold Fitzen, senior attending physician at the First Department of Internal Medicine. Effective immediately, he will be supported by Dr. Alexander Lehners, attending physician at the First Department of Internal Medicine. Both bring extensive experience in gastroenterology to the team, ensuring competent and comprehensive care for patients.
The ASV is a specialized care program for patients with specific rare or complex diseases, aimed at improving their care. To this end, clinicians from the hospital as well as private practitioners can collaborate across sectors in interdisciplinary teams to jointly and coordinately manage the treatment of affected patients.
A particular benefit for patients is the regular IBD case conferences. During these sessions, even complex medical histories are discussed in an interdisciplinary manner with all treatment partners—including available imaging data. This allows patients to benefit from having their situation carefully reviewed by various experts. Based on the latest developments and recommendations, an individualized treatment plan is then developed that is precisely tailored to their needs.
