Operative day clinic
At the Surgical Day Clinic (OTK), under the direction of Dr. Ralf Bickel-Pettrup, patients have access to four modern operating rooms and 16 recovery beds.
The goal of establishing a Surgical Day Clinic is to offload scheduled outpatient surgeries from the central operating room—which handles emergency procedures—and to consolidate their organization and execution in a single location. This means that patients are prepared, operated on, and monitored postoperatively in the immediate vicinity. Patients also spend the recovery phase in this area before being discharged home.
Two aspects are paramount here:
- Maximum medical safety must be guaranteed.
- A pleasant atmosphere with the greatest possible comfort should be provided to minimize stress for patients.

Focal points of treatment
These include the following procedures:
- endoscopic joint surgery (arthroscopy)
- Surgery on the hands and feet
- varicose vein surgery
- hernia surgery
- proctological procedures (hemorrhoid surgery, anal fissures)
- Surgeries on the body surface
- Circumcisions
- Sterilizations
- Curettage
- Laparoscopies
- Adenoid removal in children and various surgeries on the nose and in the nasopharynx
The GPR Clinic now collaborates with many private practitioners (see under “Cooperation Partners”), who take advantage of the benefits of surgery at the OTK for their patients.
Your stay
On the day of surgery, patients and their family members have access to a dedicated, free parking lot. From there, a separate elevator takes them to Level 4 of the Day Surgery Clinic. Each patient has access to a small television for relaxation. We welcome family members to accompany patients, which helps alleviate anxiety about the surgery, especially for children. A small coffee bar ensures that the wait time for companions isn’t too long and also serves patients who are allowed to eat and drink again after surgery.
Another advantage for OTK patients is certainly the option of inpatient admission should discharge after an outpatient surgical procedure, in rare cases, prove impossible. In addition to the OTK, patients thus have access to the services and full range of medical capabilities of the GPR Clinic should the need arise.
