Here's how things work in the GPR Emergency Department

The Center for Emergency Medicine at GPR Hospital is the first point of contact for initial care of accidents and acute conditions in the fields of surgery, internal medicine, and neurology. The central emergency department is led by Senior Physician Stefan Münch, a specialist in surgery and trauma surgery, together with his deputy, Senior Physician Dr. Marco Renth, a specialist in internal medicine. Both physicians hold the additional certification in “Clinical Acute and Emergency Medicine.”

The Central Emergency Department at GPR Klinikum is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to the residents of Rüsselsheim and the surrounding region. Approximately 41,000 patients are treated annually, which means up to 130 people per day with illnesses and injuries of all degrees of severity.

Monitoring up to 24 hours

An emergency ward (with ten beds) is integrated into the central emergency department. This is where patients who require a hospital stay of no more than 24 hours are treated. The facility also houses the Chest Pain Unit (CPU), which has four beds for the acute treatment and diagnosis of patients with acute chest pain.

The emergency department offers comprehensive consultations with occupational physicians. Here, work- and school-related accidents of all severities are treated (D-Arzt). The GPR Clinic is accredited to handle the injury classification process of the employers’ liability insurance associations, which means that even particularly severe injuries can and may be treated here. Patients with recent injuries can visit the emergency department at any time.
