Students in their practical year

PJ students – medical students in their “clinical rotation year”

For medical students, the transition from the university lecture hall to working with patients is one of the most important steps on the demanding path to becoming a fully qualified physician. That is why all aspiring doctors must complete a “Practical Year” (PJ) during their final year of study. The GPR Health and Care Center in Rüsselsheim has 31 spots available each year for so-called “PJ students,” who must earn their stripes in clinical practice during the upcoming training year in order to successfully complete their studies.

Training Phases

The Practical Year is divided into three training phases, which take place in the fields of internal medicine, surgery, and an elective in another discipline. Here, patient-centered training is the focus. The goal of the training during the Practical Year is for students to deepen and expand the medical knowledge and skills they acquired during their previous studies. During the clinical year, students are to be gradually guided toward independent medical practice; that is, they are to increasingly take the place of a licensed physician in practice and care for patients with growing personal responsibility.

Mainz University Hospital

The majority of the new clinical year students are currently studying at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, which cooperates with the GPR Health and Care Center in Rüsselsheim in various areas. Since 1976, students from Mainz have been successfully prepared for the realities of medical practice in Rüsselsheim.

Facilities

The modern facilities, which are state-of-the-art in all clinics and institutes, and the highly qualified medical staff guarantee young medical students a high-quality education.

Benefits

PJ students have the opportunity to eat lunch for free in the GPR Clinic’s staff cafeteria. In addition, free employee parking is available on the premises.
