Women's Clinic

The clinic participates in comprehensive quality assurance programs in the areas of obstetrics, breastcancer treatment, reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery, and surgical gynecology.

Focal points of treatment

Obstetrics - MotherChildCenter

The Obstetrics Department provides comprehensive care before, during, and after childbirth, including a wide range of counseling services and classes offered through our Mother-Child Center’s parenting school. In addition, the Women’s Clinic, together with the Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the GPR, forms a perinatal center with an attached intensive care unit and thus specializes in high-risk pregnancies and births. This center combines the individual wishes of expectant mothers with the advantage of maximum safety provided by a hospital specializing in high-risk care.

Urogynecology

Urogynecology treats incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. We offer a full range of non-surgical therapies and medical treatments. For surgical procedures, we utilize the full range of modern surgical techniques. As specialists at the Continence and Pelvic Floor Center, we are ideally equipped to address specific issues related to incontinence and pelvic floor weakness. The two senior physicians, Dr. Domes and Dr. Matthes, provide a brief overview in the video shown here. Watch the video

Breast Cancer Center

Every year, approximately 70,000 women in Germany are diagnosed with breast cancer, meaning that about one in eight to nine women will be affected by it during their lifetime. Breast cancer can also occur in men! In Germany, with about 500 new cases per year in men, it is significantly less common than breast cancer in women. If breast cancer is diagnosed, specialists from all disciplines are available to you at the Breast Cancer Center.

Center for reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery

Here, we place a special emphasis on combining tumor surgery with immediate reconstruction. In many cases, breast-conserving therapy is only possible through targeted reconstructive procedures. Using modern techniques, we ensure not only oncological safety but also aesthetically pleasing results. At the Center for Reconstructive and Aesthetic Breast Surgery, our range of services includes not only reconstructive surgery but also aesthetic breast procedures. Whether breast augmentation, breast reduction, lift, or the correction of deformities—every procedure is individually tailored to your wishes and needs. In addition, we offer body contouring through abdominoplasty to help you achieve a harmonious body image—whether after pregnancy, weight loss, or simply because you desire a change.

Center for Gynecological Oncology

Genital tumors are among the most common cancers affecting women. Our gynecologic oncology department offers the full spectrum of conservative and surgical treatments at an international standard, including regular interdisciplinary tumor board meetings and the option to seek a second opinion from us. The Women’s Clinic at GPR Klinikum guarantees comprehensive care based on the latest scientific findings, provided by experienced specialists in gynecologic oncology. Malignant diseases of the female reproductive organs in the pelvis can now increasingly be treated using minimally invasive techniques.

With the surgical expertise of two gynecologic oncologists, all modern surgical procedures can be successfully performed. For advanced tumors in the pelvis, extensive surgical procedures remain essential; these are planned and performed in collaboration with the departments of Visceral Surgery and Urology. In addition to modern drug therapies, surgical treatment plays a crucial role in the successful management of such aggressive diseases. We can guarantee the necessary expertise and experience for this.

Surgical gynecology

Surgical gynecology and gynecologic oncology offer the full range of established gynecological procedures for benign and malignant conditions, including numerous minimally invasive techniques; in fact, virtually all surgeries for benign conditions can now be performed via laparoscopy. Even in the early stages of malignant diseases, the necessary extensive procedures involving lymph node removal can be performed via laparoscopy. In addition to better cosmetic results, this approach significantly shortens the hospital stay and recovery time.

State-of-the-art fibroid treatment with ultrasound and radio frequency

The Fibroid Center at the Women’s Clinic of the GPR Clinic is now offering—as the first and only clinic in the Rhine-Main region to do so—the Sonata® procedure, a minimally invasive method for treating fibroids that is particularly gentle on the patient. In this procedure, an ultrasound probe is inserted into the uterine cavity. This ultrasound probe enables a very precise visualization of the fibroid. Once the fibroid has been precisely located, a needle-shaped electrode is inserted into the tumor. An electric current is then delivered, heating the tissue within the predefined zone and thereby ablating it. The surrounding tissue remains undamaged, as a safety margin is maintained. The body subsequently breaks down the fibroid on its own. The Sonata® treatment requires no incisions in the abdominal area, and no cutting or surgical removal of tissue is necessary.

Endometriosis

The Women’s Clinic at GPR Hospital offers a comprehensive range of treatment options tailored to each patient’s specific symptoms and needs. Treatment methods include, among others, medication-based therapies that use pain relievers to alleviate symptoms. In addition, various hormone therapies can slow the progression of the disease. Taking the birth control pill on a long-term cycle can also help alleviate pain.

Furthermore, the Women’s Clinic also offers surgical treatment options. These include minimally invasive laparoscopy, which allows for the removal of endometriosis lesions and cysts. In more severe cases, a more extensive surgical procedure may be necessary. For patients with particularly severe endometriosis who have completed their family planning, a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) may be considered in exceptional cases. The choice of the appropriate treatment is always made in close consultation with the patient and is tailored to her individual needs. In this way, the Women’s Clinic at GPR Klinikum ensures comprehensive and holistic care for women with endometriosis.

Immediate medical assistance in the event of rape

On December 15, 2021, the pilot project “Immediate Medical Assistance Following Rape” was launched in the Groß-Gerau district. The Office for Women and Equal Opportunity of the Groß-Gerau District Administration is collaborating on this initiative with the GPR Klinikum Rüsselsheim. Both aim to address a gap in care. People who have experienced sexual violence can now receive medical care at the GPR Klinikum Rüsselsheim and have evidence of rape preserved in a manner admissible in court without having to file a police report. This allows victims of the crime to decide later whether they wish to file a report. The Groß-Gerau district aims, on the one hand, to ensure medical care following a rape—including for people without insurance coverage—and, on the other hand, to reduce the high number of unreported cases. The care provided is confidential. No report will be filed, neither by the hospital, a medical practice, nor the counseling center Frauen helfen Frauen e.V.
