Compared to the previous year, this represents a significant increase: in 2024, 47,762 patients were treated, which corresponds to a 4.75 percent increase. On average, the emergency room team treats 136 people per day. On some days, up to 75 ambulances were received—a testament to the high performance of this medical unit, which operates around the clock, 365 days a year.
“Caring for over 50,000 patients a year is only possible through a well-coordinated team effort. Our staff work together with a high level of professional expertise, clear structures, and a strong sense of responsibility. This strong teamwork is the decisive factor in the quality and performance of our emergency department,” explains Stefan Münch, Head of the Emergency Department.
The rising number of cases also reflects the growing demands and pressures on doctors and nurses. To ensure care remains at a consistently high level, GPR Klinikum has been using a software-based emergency department management system (EPIAS) since 2019. The system facilitates structured initial triage, comprehensive documentation of emergency patients, and the optimization of logistical processes.
A major advancement is the digital interface with emergency medical services: patient data collected at the scene of the emergency is transmitted to the GPR Clinic’s emergency department in real time and in compliance with data protection regulations. This advance information enables targeted logistical planning and the early allocation of rooms, staff, and medical resources even before patients arrive. At the same time, emergency medical service and emergency physician reports are fully transferred digitally into the emergency department management system and the hospital information system.
Since the system’s introduction, administrative burdens have been significantly reduced, and medical and nursing documentation processes have been simplified and standardized. Room and resource planning is also made considerably easier by digital support—a crucial factor given the continuously rising number of patients.
“The continuously rising patient numbers demonstrate how dynamic emergency care is in our region. For us, the medical safety of our patients always comes first. Through clear processes, early planning, and the expertise of our team, we can ensure high-quality and personalized care even during periods of high patient volume,” said the Medical Director of the GPR, Dr. Gerd Albuszies.
As one of the first hospitals in the region, GPR Klinikum embraced innovative digital solutions early on and consistently. The end-to-end digitization of the information flow between emergency services and the emergency department underscores our commitment to combining modern medicine with cutting-edge technology.
“The GPR Clinic invests more than 2 million euros annually in improving its medical infrastructure, thereby ensuring the continuous advancement of patient care. We have invested significantly in quality development in recent years and can offer verifiably high-quality care here at the GPR Clinic,” explained Achim Neyer, Managing Director of the GPR Health and Care Center in Rüsselsheim.
