This new service is specifically designed for patients who are seeking additional guidance as part of their cancer treatment. It focuses on personalized counseling regarding medication, side effects, nutrition, and complementary therapies. The goal is to provide greater confidence in managing complex treatments and to strengthen patients’ independence in their daily lives.
There is a special focus on pharmaceutical counseling: Here, interactions are reviewed, strategies for managing side effects are discussed, and individual questions are answered in an understandable way. In addition, psycho-oncology offers support in coping emotionally with the disease and helps strengthen personal resources.
“Many patients feel uncertain given the multitude of medications and information. With our counseling services, we aim to provide guidance, clarify questions, and offer concrete support in daily life,” explains Maika Bester, Organizational Director of the Center for Hematology and Oncology and Head of the Hospital Pharmacy and Central Purchasing. “Our goal is not only to provide optimal medical support for treatment but also to make it understandable and manageable.”
The counseling is provided in close coordination with the treatment team at the oncology outpatient clinic and is firmly integrated into patient care at GPR Clinic. Appointments can be scheduled during office hours, Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
“With this service, we are creating real added value for our patients. In addition to medical treatment, we are specifically focusing on personal support and counseling,” says Achim Neyer, Managing Director of GPR. “Especially with complex diseases like cancer, it is crucial to provide comprehensive support—both professionally and personally.”
