The path to certification was long and challenging for the nurses. Johann Hermann, who is responsible for recruiting international nursing staff at GPR Klinikum, oversaw the entire process: from recruitment and arrival in Germany to assistance with finding housing and integrating into daily nursing practice.
“The key to success is not only language, but also thorough practical guidance during the recognition process and the subsequent knowledge exam or adaptation course,” explains Johann Hermann. He extends a special thank you to all employees who supported this process. He emphasizes that the integration of the new colleagues was a team effort of which he is particularly proud. Last year, the nursing staff completed a roughly ten-month recognition course covering both theory and practice, including a final exam at the GPR Vocational School for Nursing Professions.
The growing response from abroad demonstrates that this commitment is paying off. The GPR Clinic has established itself as an attractive employer, as reflected in the increasing number of direct applications from abroad.
GPR Managing Director Achim Neyer places this development in a broader context: “It is becoming increasingly difficult for more and more hospitals to fill open positions with qualified staff from Germany. The proportion of foreign nursing professionals in German hospitals is growing steadily. The GPR Clinic has also been facing this challenge for some time. That is why the nursing administration has cast its net far beyond Germany’s borders—and fortunately found what it was looking for.”
With the successful certification of the eight nursing professionals, the GPR Clinic is sending another signal of international cooperation, sustainable workforce retention, and teamwork.
